Small Sacrifices makes it easy to transfer funds from your THRiVE Chequing Account to your Savings Account. Scroll through the screens to see how it works.

  • What are Small Sacrifices?

Small Sacrifices is our new Mobile Banking tool that helps guide you through day-to-day decisions that save you money.

Think you might be able to pass on a coffee today? Considering a home-packed lunch instead of eating out? Since you'll be saving a little money because of that decision, why not move the cash over to your Savings Account right then and there? You likely won't miss it much at that moment, but little savings can add up to big things.

With Small Sacrifices, you're transferring small amounts of money over to your Savings Account little by little, quickly and securely – and we'll even show you how much your little sacrifice will add up to over time.

  • How does it work?

Small Sacrifices is a tool in the ING DIRECT Mobile Banking App. When you log into the app, you'll notice a new icon. Click on the icon to get started.

Once you've signed up, Small Sacrifices will make it easy for you to transfer small amounts of money from your THRiVE Chequing™ Account to your Savings Account on a regular basis without logging in.

It gets even simpler when you set up some Favourites. A Favourite is a sacrifice that you're going to make often. Say, for example, you decide to start bringing your lunch twice a week. Once you've set up your Favourite, every time you do bring your lunch, it's easy to reward yourself by making that quick money transfer. You don't even need to log in to do it. Just open the app – select Small Sacrifices, click on your Favourite and you're done.

And remember – Small Sacrifices is for helping small savings add up over time, so the maximum amount for a small sacrifice is $100.00. If you'd like to contribute more money on a regular basis, our Automatic Savings Program is designed to help you do that.

  • What do I need to use it?

You'll need to have a supported smartphone, a THRiVE Chequing Account and either an Investment Savings Account or an RSP Investment Savings Account to use it. Small Sacrifices works this way because the idea is to move money from the Account you use for spending to one you use for saving.

You can use Small Sacrifices with a single Account or a joint Account. But you'll need a THRiVE Chequing Account with an Investment Savings Account or an RSP Investment Savings Account specifically (TFSAs, GICs, Mutual Funds, Business Accounts and Mortgages are not included). If you don't have a THRiVE Chequing Account or an Investment Savings Account, you can sign up for one in minutes by logging in and selecting the Open new account tab.

  • How do I sign up?

If you haven't already downloaded the ING DIRECT Mobile Banking App, then visit the links at the top of this page to get going. Then, when you open the app on your phone, you'll see the Small Sacrifices icon. Click on the icon to get started. It's that easy!

We'll ask you a few questions about yourself when you sign up. This will help us show you accurate information about your savings as your sacrifices add up. After those quick questions, you'll be ready to go.

Once you're signed up, it's easy to add and remove sacrifices. If at any time you'd like to remove the Small Sacrifices tool, just log in, click on the My info and options tab, and visit the Read Only Settings section.

  • What type of mobile device can I use?

The Small Sacrifices tool is currently available for Apple® and Android™ devices.
