4.25% Summer Savings Sale
June 1, 2007, Toronto, ON – As part of its 10 year anniversary celebrations ING DIRECT is declaring today National Save Your Money Day®, designed to show Canadians that saving a little every day can add up to saving a lot over time. ING DIRECT savings squads dressed in orange coveralls will be in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal offering to pick up the cost of daily expenses such as coffees, transit fares and ABM fees.
"We felt this would be a great way to give back to Canadians, allowing them to keep a few extra dollars in their pockets and showing them what it feels like to be an ING DIRECT Client," explained Johanne Brossard, President and Chief Executive Officer of ING DIRECT.
In 1997 ING DIRECT launched in Canada with the guiding principle of helping Canadians save their money by offering great interest rates on savings accounts with no fees or service charges. The success of ING DIRECT in Canada has formed the foundation of ING DIRECT's progress internationally with operations in Spain, Australia, France, the USA, Italy, Germany, the UK, Austria, and soon to be, Japan. The company's product line in Canada has expanded to include the unmortgage®, GICs and mutual funds, among other products.
Today more than 1.5 million Canadians are saving their hard earned money with ING DIRECT, and they have earned more than $2.3 Billion in interest over the last decade, without paying a single penny in fees or service charges. In contrast, the big five banks have charged Canadians more than $26 billion in service charges and fees since 1997. This amount equates to approximately 20% of their profits.
"Our philosophy over the past 10 years has centered on revolutionizing the savings account and being ambassadors of savings for Canadians. We are committed to continue helping Canadians save their money for the next 10 years and longer, by offering products that are simple to use and understand, with no hidden fees," said Brossard.
